Medical Exam

We had a very restful night of sleep in our SOFT beds, and woke up to an amazing breakfast buffet.  Kai was amazed that the tooth fairy did indeed come last night, and he found money under his pillow.  I guess he has heard of the tooth fairy before, and tried putting a tooth under his bed in the orphanage, but she didn't find it there.

There are many adoptive families in our hotel, and we've also been reunited with our travel group from Beijing.  It's been so nice to chat with other adults and Kai has been playing with some of the babies.  He is still shy with the older children so far.

At his medical exam
Our group headed to Shamian Island this morning for the medical exam required for Kai's visa.  Kai was withdrawn and kind of grumpy, but I think that may have been partly because I gave him some Bendadryl for his cold this morning.  He did fine until it was time for the TB test.  He freaked out, fighting, screaming and sobbing.  Ryan could hardly hold him down, and the nurse said to wait until we could get a doctor to help.  All of this from a child who has not shown us a moment of grief or fear since we met.  I was a mess, and could hardly keep from sobbing myself, as I so wished we didn't have to make him do it.  While we waited, another little girl from our group had her turn, and then Kai marched right over and sat down with his arm out and had his shot without any tears at all.  It was amazing.  Needless to say, he got praised, hugged and kissed like crazy and all the candy he wanted for that!

Afterwards we headed over to a Thai restaurant, the Cow and Bridge for lunch.  Ryan has been waiting to eat there again since we were here in 2009 for Paul... it did not disappoint!

The Cow & Bridge

Enjoying his Chicken Cashew with Chili Paste... wish you were here Matt & JoEllen!
We are back at the hotel room for a rest time before we meet up with our guide for more paperwork today.  We heard there is a very nice park about 5 minutes from our hotel, so we may wander out there later.  It's great to be in Guangzhou, and in the final leg of this journey.

  2. They did have the best food!! Wish we could be there to enjoy some with you. I see the Coke can sitting there as well. Probably cost you as much as your dinner hahah! Can not wait to see all your pictures and hear all the details of the trip. Thankful to hear that the tooth fairy finally made it to collect Kai's tooth! Hang in there.....
